Archival & Special Collection

  • A military history collection: the Great Park was built on the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, one of the ways to commemorate that history is to make local history available for public access.

  • A well resourced central library can be a repository for rare books, historical documents, and local history materials.

  • The central library could be the hub for a system's collection and house a much larger and deeper inventory of books, periodicals, and media.

  • Collect foreign language materials that can be circulated to all other branch libraries.

Makerspace & Library of Things

  • 3D printers

  • Laser cutters

  • Sewing machines

  • Various crafting stations

  • Shelves stocked with colorful materials, tools, and finished projects

  • People of diverse ages are engaged in creative activities

  • Collaborative and inspiring atmosphere

  • Focus on innovation and learning

Be A Part of Something Bigger

The new main library will anchor the Irvine Public Library System, connecting seamlessly with our existing branches at University Park, Heritage Park, and Katie Wheeler.

This integration means expanded collections, shared programming, and enhanced digital resources across all locations. Creating a truly comprehensive library experience for every Irvine resident.
